Stripped Down to the Bone Tour 2012

Published April 24, 2012 by doodlebumpkin

April 9th 2012 = One of the GREATEST nights of my life.

It started out like any other day. I woke up, showered, picked out the perfect outfit and we were on our way. My boyfriend Hunter, and I were on our way to see our most favorite band ever, Hawthorne Heights. They were playing a rare acoustic show just a few hours away in Cape Girardeau, MO. It was extra exciting for me for a couple of reasons. Number one I’d never been to MO and we got to drive over the Mississippi River which is huge by the way. Number two I was toting around a super special crocheted plushie of JT Woodruff (lead singer of HH) and I absolutely could not wait to give it to him. I had worked so hard on it trying to get it to look just like him.

When we got there we were surprised to see a huge line down the block waiting for the doors to open, luckily we had gotten our tickets in advance. Since we bought our tickets online we got to be at the front of the line. Upon entering the building we both had to show ID and I got my hand X’d. It will probably be the last time I ever have my hands X’d at a concert since I’ll be 21 in June. I also had to pay a $3 fee for being under 21. I thought that was pretty sucky. :/

The club was pretty cool, other than the whole $3 minor fee. The name of it was Pitter’s. They had a food truck vendor parked on the street that they kept promoting. I thought it was a little strange because the truck didn’t open for business until 10 pm. The food looked really good but I was too excited to eat. I’d seen Hawthorne Heights 4 times before but this time was gonna be super special because I had the plushie to give to JT. I originally planned on making the whole band but business on my Etsy shop had picked up and I didn’t have enough time to make everyone. It was okay though because JT was the only one I saw after the show.

First some local guy played, he seemed really nervous and had to chug 2 beers just to get through his set. I don’t remember his name but I didn’t really care for him. Plus he sang about the 7/11 convenience store in almost every song he had. Then Sandlot Heroes came on and they were AWESOME. I even bought their CD after the show and had them sign it. After them Mark Rose came on. I didn’t really know anything about him but when he came on stage he explained that he used to be in Spittlefield. He was pretty good but his music was really mellow compared to Sandlot Heroes so the crowd wasn’t really feeling it. Everyone was talking through his set and I felt really bad. I danced around and took lots of pictures of him to try to make him feel better. :P After him it was time for Hawthorne Heights. By the time they came on basically everyone in the crowd was wasted and falling all over each other; It was actually really embarrassing. JT opened up with a quote about life. It was pretty deep. He said something about how you shouldn’t spend your life worrying about stuff. I tried to remember it because it ties in great with my life right now. I even repeated it about 100 times in my head. I was going to text it to myself but I didn’t want the people behind me to look over my shoulder and say, “Look at that girl she’s such a freak she’s writing down every word he says…I bet she has a crochet plushie of him in her purse.” haha. We were at the front, right by Matt. Matt was playing a keyboard and he was super skinny compared to the last time I saw him. Micah was on the other side of the stage playing a super pretty sparkly blue guitar. JT of course was front and center with his guitar. Eron wasn’t there though. I’m not really sure why he wasn’t there and I forgot to ask JT when I met him. They also had another guy named Mark playing with them and it was his birthday. Some drunk girls from the crowd yelled some slurred obscenities at him. Even Corndog, their merch guy got on stage and played guitar with them for one song. They sounded really good. The acoustic was super cool, but I felt like I was missing something. I just wanted them to play a hard song so we could all dance and jump around. They promised next time they come back they’d play a regular show. My favorite was when they played “Gravestones.” I was actually surprised that it ended up being my favorite because Skeletons isn’t really my favorite record by them.

After their set we asked that Mark guy if we could have the set list and he said yeah. Then I asked him for a guitar pick and he gave me one of those too and we headed for the merch table. We sat at a table and waited for the line to die down. It practically killed me to wait, especially when JT was standing right there meeting people. Finally, it was our turn. I was so scared and it suddenly dawned on me…what if he thinks I’m a creeper for even making this? I almost didn’t give it to him but Hunter told me it would be fine. I gave it to him and he LOVED it. He immediately showed Corndog and I took a picture of him with it. Then he gave me a hug. It wasn’t like one of those normal fan hugs like with one arm while cheesin’ it for the camera. It was an honest to goodness hug. It was great. Then I got a picture with him and he signed Hunter’s set list. When we asked him to sign the set list he said “You got that set list huhhh” and it was kinda funny how he sounded haha. And then we left. We totally forgot to sign up for the license plate guitar giveaway and I was so mad that I forgot. But it was okay, I still had a great time.

Later that week Hawthorne Heights posted this photo on their Twitter. It’s so cool to think that something I made is going on the rest of the tour with them. Who knows where my little plushie will end up. It’s like a little piece of me is riding around in their van. :D

Yay! New Theme!

Published November 5, 2011 by doodlebumpkin

Howdy bloggers! Wait, did I just say howdy? *face palm* Sorry about that, I just had a brief moment of lameness. :P

Anyway, I haven’t been posting much, other than my 30 Crochet Challenge Q&A’s that you can check out under the 30 Day Crochet Challenge section of this blog. BUT, there is more to life than crochet. I know, shocking right? :O At least, that’s what my boyfriend keeps telling me. :P

So, he started dragging me to the state park to “look at some wildlife.” I swear it’s his life’s mission to find a black bear in it’s natural environment. Well, as it turns out I’ve actually been having a great time! We’ve seen tons of deer. Wait, can you measure deer in tons? I suppose you can. Anyway, moving on…We’ve even seen some pretty large bucks. It’s apparently mating season for the deer so they’ve been out getting all frisky. The males have been fighting and bumping horns and stuff. haha :P

The other day my boyfriend decided he’d try his hand at fishing. Well…I don’t know much about fishing but it’s early November and we’re in Western New York. It’s pretty cold. Needless to say he didn’t catch anything. But, I got some good work done on a scoodie while I was there enjoying nature and what not.

*note* the yarn bag on top of the tackle box. There was so much goose poop I couldn't set it down. :O

Today we went hiking (Not my favorite activity, let’s just say I had a bad experience in the hiking field.) Well, the hill we hiked up was pretty much a 90 degree angle. (It was a great work out for the glutes!) We came across some “loafs” of bear poop. They were honestly shaped like squares and full of berries. I called it a loaf because it sort of resembled my dad’s meatloaf. XD So, we got almost to the top of the hill and realized we’d left the trail. We could still see the car though, so we found our way right back to the trail. After about another half hour of climbing the 90 degree grade we heard something grunting from the woods. I was freaking out! It was at that point that we decided to head back. We were so far in we couldn’t see anything except the woods. I decided that we needed to get out of there ASAP. I am super afraid of being mauled to death by a bear or stomped to death by the stick legs of a deer. :O So…my master plan was to forget the path and descend straight down the steep mountain. There were so many leaves on the ground and it was a bit muddy. The hill was very slick. And I wasn’t really prepared for hiking. (Although, I did have my Northface jacket on to give the illusion of being the hiking type.) I was wearing my slip on Van’s that I got when I was in 10th grade. (in 2006) They have nothing in the way of traction. I might have well have been wearing a pair of those carpet skates out there on this giant 90 degree incline of a mountain, with muddy, slippery leaves under me. At one point I actually had to sit on my butt and scoot down the hill for a while. I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes a few times, between the growling animal hiding in the forest, and the possible 300 foot drop to my death if I stepped in the wrong spot. :O We finally got the car after about an hour and a half ordeal. I hate being lost/stuck in the woods!

My old carpet skates. ;)

So then, we decided we’d take a short walk on the bike path before we went home. (Because an hour and a half trapped in the woods fearing for our lives just wasn’t enough activity for one day.) Near the bike path we found more bear poop, yet no bear. :/ We also found a field of about 15 deer. My boyfriend decided it would be fun to go madly charging at the pack. (They were about 2 football fields away but still!) That action quickly led to me racing to the car cursing under my breath. I never cuss, unless I’m super mad or super scared. I was a little bit of both at the time. I could just imagine the deer racing down the hill and stomping us to death with their stick legs. :O

The view from the bike path.

Finally, on our way out of the park we saw what we thought was a bear. We were so excited! I had my camera ready as we slowly coasted down the road, trying not to scare the animal way. Well, upon further investigation what we had found was someone’s giant black lab, playing with a rope toy. :(

So, I’m sure tomorrow the quest to find a black bear will continue. Until then, I changed my theme. XD Purple is my favie right now!

Halloween!!! XD

Published October 30, 2011 by doodlebumpkin

I for one am super stoked about Halloween. I hope we get lots of trick or treaters at my house. I have been doing all sorts of fun things to celebrate the season. First my boyfriend and I went up to the state park to look at all the beautiful leaves. We also took pictures of my new line of beanies. (kill two birds with one stone, I always say)

This is a picture of the leaves up at the park. :)

After that we went up to Pumpkinville. It is this awesome little pumpkin patch in my hometown. Here’s their facebook if you wanna check them out: http://www.facebook.com/pumpkinville There is this really cool corn maze up there that we walked through. It took us like an hour to find our way out, and it was super cold. XD They also have a little “Spooky Barn” up there that is a shed filled with animatronic scary zombies and stuff that jumps out at you. It’s really dark in there and it scared me cuz I’m a baby. :O

Here I am in the corn maze.

Here's my boyfriend in the corn maze.

After we left Pumpkinville we went to “The Haunted Dudley.”  It’s this hotel in my hometown that is allegedly haunted. They were doing a spooky walk through thing in the basement. It was super good. We waited like 45 minutes to get in. It was sooooo scary! There was this huge clown guy sitting in a rocking chair. It was so big I thought it was fake, like made from paper mache but then all of a sudden he was behind me! I hate clowns >:O

This is what the big clown guy looked like!

When we got home from the Haunted Dudley we carved pumpkins. We got the biggest pumpkins I’ve ever carved. They were soooo heavy! I tried to make mine look like a happy pumpkin with a mustache and a bow tie. But….it looked better in my head than it did when I actually carved it. :/

After we did our pumpkins we watched Halloween, it’s always a classic. :D How did you spend your Halloween, what are you going to dress up as? Share your pics! :D

Our happy little pumpkin family. :D

PS: I did this makeup for a contest on my friend's facebook but I think I might make it my Halloween costume also. :P
